Natures Repellent

How does it work?

The organic nitrogen compounds in a pungent lipid group called capsaicinoids are what makes a pepper hot and the heat of a pepper is measured in Scoville Units. Developed by Wilbur Scoville in 1912, Scoville Units measure pepper heat in multiples of 100, with the bell peppers at 0 and the habanero at over 300,000 Scoville Units. Hy-Tech has incorporated select, concentrated pepper extracts and other all natural essential oils and repellants into the "Eco Pel" formula producing a whopping 1,000,000 Scoville Units, the highest in the industry!

Hy-Tech's complex blend of all natural ingredients is compatible with paints, coatings, plastics, composites, waxes, adhesives and vinyl sheathing for electrical cables and wires.

When this concentrate is mixed into a base carrier be it paint, plastics, or composites, the dried film has proven remarkably effective at repelling a wide spectrum of pests. Recent studies conducted have confirmed that termites--among the most pervasively destructive insects on Earth--were effectively repelled by high concentrations of pepper extracts.

Grady J. Glenn, an entomologist and termite researcher at Texas A&M, said, "These preliminary tests were quite positive. With any choice, the insects fled the area containing the experimental material and stayed away. . . . An ecologically sensitive repellent of this type could be very beneficial." When provided with a choice of wood treated with experimental material or one of a number of alternate materials, the termites moved from the experimental material each time. When given no choice but materials impregnated with essential oils and capsaicin, the insects totally avoided the woody materials.

Preliminary studies to control fire ants and other nuisance insects are currently underway and thus far the results are very impressive.
Prior research has demonstrated that capsaicinoids also successfully repel a variety of freshwater and saltwater mollusks, including the zebra mussel which currently plagues the Great Lakes and which has spread into many of North America's other freshwater lakes and rivers.

Controlled bench tests and field tests involving the effects of capsaicinoid-based repellents on zebra mussels and other freshwater species of mollusks were conducted in Lake Michigan under the auspices of the Aquatic Research Institute in Indiana. Zebra mussels attach themselves to virtually every available smooth surface, including docks, piers, boat hulls, water intakes, and even drive mechanisms and other moving parts of marine engines.

Throughout all phases of the study in Lake Michigan it was observed that there was no permanent attachment on test materials by either the larvae or juvenile mussels. Earlier research confirms that saltwater animals, such as sea anemones, scallops, and barnacles, which normally attach to solid surfaces, will actively avoid materials treated with the chile pepper-based repellent. (Note: These preliminary tests were run on a moderate solution of capsaicinoid-based extract, 600,000 scoville units, since then Hy-Tech has developed the Eco Pel formulation, scoville unit rating alone is in excess of 1,000,000. This extremely potent extract blended with other natural repelling ingredients makes for a powerful weapon for use in combating the destructive nature of insects and rodents.)

Additional testing finds that woodpeckers and roadrunners avoid pecking fence and utility posts treated with encapsulated ceramic material.

The key to Hy-Tech's "Eco Pel " is the fact that it is fused into extremely fine particles of ceramic microspheres. The non-toxic, inert, hard (60,000 psi) ceramics provide a method of incorporation into any carrying vehicle while also providing a jaw breaking deterrent to targeted pests and rodents.

"Eco Pel" is All Natural, Environmentally Friendly, Non-Toxic, Non-Poisonous, Non-Lethal compound.
